PAINTING IS THE MUSIC OF THE IMAGINATION
I am a colorist and expressionist.
To me, that means that I have a mystery vocabulary of colors and forms, which express and articulate thoughts, feelings, and ideas. I don't know what the finished painting "means". Maybe the blissful inner fire of joy. Maybe nothing.

I enjoy the physicality of putting paint to board, mostly with palette knives, fingers, other objects. I enjoy the feel of it, the unveiling of the composition; the emptying of the pond.
I work and rework directly, intuitively, no sketches or planning; always processing, always processing.
My work bonds color and texture into strong compositions, and may be initially based on a landscape, flora, fauna, or biomorphic forms. Or on a whim.
Among my influences are Richard Diebenkorn, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Max Beckman, Charles Mingus, Pierre Bonnard, Joni Mitchell, Joan Mitchell, John Coltrane, Cocteau Twins, Bernice Bing...TheQuilts of Gee Bend, Saul Leiter, starlings, tides and the rustling of the wind in trees.
